Navagraha temples are a group of nine Hindu temples located in different parts of India, each dedicated to one of the nine celestial bodies or planets (Navagrahas) in Hindu astrology. These temples are considered to be important pilgrimage sites for Hindus who seek to appease the planets and seek their blessings.
The nine Navagraha temples are located in the following places:
Suryanar Kovil (Sun) – Tamil Nadu
Thingaloor (Moon) – Tamil Nadu
Vaitheeswaran Kovil (Mars) – Tamil Nadu
Thiruvenkadu (Mercury) – Tamil Nadu
Alangudi (Jupiter) – Tamil Nadu
Kanjanur (Venus) – Tamil Nadu
Thirunallar (Saturn) – Tamil Nadu
Bhrammapureeswarar Temple (Rahu) – Tamil Nadu
Naganathaswamy Temple (Ketu) – Tamil Nadu
Each temple has a unique architecture and history and is associated with a particular planet. The Navagraha temples are known for their spiritual significance and are believed to have the power to mitigate the ill effects of planetary positions in a person’s horoscope.
Visiting all nine Navagraha temples is considered to be a highly auspicious pilgrimage for Hindus, especially for those who are undergoing the difficult period of Sade Sati or Dasha Sandhi, which are said to be the result of unfavorable planetary positions. Many devotees undertake this pilgrimage as a form of penance or to seek the blessings of the Navagrahas for good health, wealth, and prosperity.
