SriRangam is a temple town located in the city of Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is known for its Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, which is one of the most important and largest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is located on an island in the Cauvery River and is spread over an area of about 156 acres. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Sri Ranganathaswamy, who is depicted lying on a bed of snakes.
The temple has a rich history and is believed to have been built in the 1st century CE, with additions and renovations made over the centuries by various dynasties including the Cholas, Pandyas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara Empire.
